BIOGRAPHY

Established in 2023 by co-founders Harvey Lok (Director) and Alicia Hunt (General Manager), Hemiola is a vocal ensemble comprising current and former choral scholars from the Choir of Royal Holloway.

The ensemble’s debut 2023–2024 season featured four full concert programmes, including a Christmas narrative exploring the starry and Marian imagery of Christ’s Nativity; a collaborative performance of Parry’s Songs of Farewell with Lady Clare’s Consort; and two contrasting programmes of Romantic and contemporary works responding to the Book of Job and Sara Teasdale’s poem Love and Death. Hemiola also undertook a wide range of engagements, from performing for the Principal and Senior Leadership Team of Royal Holloway University to recording music by award-winning composer Nathan James Dearden.

The 2024/25 season opened with a collaborative performance of Bach’s motets alongside The Dolor Consort. In spring 2025, the ensemble completed their first tour with a reflective programme inspired by Christina Rossetti’s Good Friday, receiving an enthusiastic response from audiences. Most recently, Hemiola was honoured to headline the Brecon Choir Festival in July 2025, marking another significant milestone in the ensemble’s growing artistic journey.
